A Day for Thorpey honoured the life of England and Surrey cricketer Graham Thorpe during the England v. India test match at the Kia Oval on Friday 1 August, what would have been Graham’s 56th birthday.
Graham played first-class cricket for Surrey County Cricket Club and represented England in 100 Test matches. Graham took his own life on the 4th August last year, aged 55, after struggling with anxiety and depression for several years.
A Day for Thorpey raised money for mental health charity Mind through the sale of a limited-edition headband which resembles what Graham wore when he was batting for England.
Funds raised help will help Mind to deliver Thorpey’s Bat and Chat cricket programme, delivered by local Minds across England and Wales, giving people with mental health problems the chance to get active, build friendships, and develop vital self-care skills through the power of cricket.
